Lotus at the 49th AvD Old Timer Grand Prix Nurburgring 2022

It was a fantastic weekend of close and competitive racing at the 49th AvD Old Timer Grand Prix at the Nurburgring deep in the heart of the Eifel region of Germany.

32 Lotus race cars, from sports cars to F1 spanning over 50 years were represented in nine of the 14 race categories, which together with some superb driving and racing, resulted in Lotus cars gaining 24 wins and 40 podiums over the weekend. These results contributed to Lotus being one of the most successful marques at this key historic race meeting.

Off the track, teams from Lotus Cars Europe, based in Amsterdam (Netherlands), Lotus Tech Innovation Centre in Raunheim (Germany) and from the Lotus Cars HQ in Hethel (UK) revealed the extent of the expansion of the Lotus brand around the world in the last three years with the all new Lotus three car line-up.

Making their European market debut at the Oldtimer Grand Prix was the new all electric hyper-SUV, the Eletre, the 2000 PS Evija hypercar and the new Emira, the last petrol-powered Lotus sports car were displayed alongside two classic Lotus cars – a Lotus Type 30 from 1964 and a gold 1979 Esprit S2, a former press car which was also used by Colin Chapman.

Giuseppe Mele, Brand Marketing Director, Lotus Cars Europe said, “It is great to see the Lotus brand so well represented at the Nurburgring over the weekend and to appreciate the huge following that we have for our heritage and our future. I would like to thank all the Lotus drivers who raced over the weekend and congratulate those who won or made the podium – each one a brilliant achievement and a testament to the winning formula of the brand.”
